Behind the Scene with Natasha B.

Meet Natasha B. – an up and coming free-lance makeup artist from New York City.

I first met Natasha in a religion class we had to take for our undergraduate degree.  Back then, our biggest concerns were figuring out what we would have for dinner, where we could find a good reggae party or how we could finance our next shopping spree.

Even in her early 20’s, Natasha has always had a strength and independence that I’ve admired. It is that same strength that helps her today as she faces life as a single mother.

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Natasha to chat about her life today as a single mother.

Why I Finally Cut Off My Reserve Guy

Disclaimer: Out of respect for the individual, the name of my “reserve guy” has been changed for this article.  All other details are true.

I have a type. My best friends know my type and for the most part I usually date guys that fit the mold of what I like…

While some comments may come from a genuine place, they can be internalized negatively by a single mother.

Of course every single mom’s reactions will be different, but generally speaking, here are seven things you should never say to a single mother:

That One Scripture I Wanted to Delete from the Bible

I know. You’re probably looking at your screen like that has to be a typo. But, it’s not, and yes, I’m still repenting for feeling that way.

Of course I do feel terrible for even admitting it, but it’s true. And since I promised I would tell you the truth – the good, the bad and the ugly – here’s some of my ugly truth.

Every time I heard this scripture my eyes would immediately twitch and roll. It was like my body was having an allergic reaction to this verse.  I kept hearing this scripture so much it was like God was playing a joke on me.

No exaggeration, these are how my prayers would go: Continue reading
