The Best Gift Ever!

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” –  Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)

It’s supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year.

Holiday parties. Family gatherings. Spending time with close friends and loved ones.

And of course, presents!

For many of us Christmas wouldn’t be complete without the giving and receiving of gifts.

But gifting can be tricky.

Disappointment Sucks!

“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!”
‭‭Psalms ‭42:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Finally, this was it!  My big breakthrough moment!

I’d been praying and asking God for this for a long time. And finally, the door of opportunity was swinging open.

That is, until I got a phone call that abruptly slammed the door shut on my dreams.

In an instance I went from planning a victory party to having an unexpected invitation to another pity party.

When You’re the Only One In The Room

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10 (NIV)

From the moment I saw the email, I knew it was that time of the year again.

Whenever our office ended its busy season, my boss would suggest a celebratory after-work soiree. Normally, I would use my single mom with a long commute card as a way out of attending the dinner, but I knew I couldn’t put it off again.

I reluctantly confirmed my attendance and secretly wished something would come up to force the cancelation of the event.

But as the days drew closer, I knew the likelihood of my prayer being answered was slim to none.

That One Scripture I Wanted to Delete from the Bible

I know. You’re probably looking at your screen like that has to be a typo. But, it’s not, and yes, I’m still repenting for feeling that way.

Of course I do feel terrible for even admitting it, but it’s true. And since I promised I would tell you the truth – the good, the bad and the ugly – here’s some of my ugly truth.

Every time I heard this scripture my eyes would immediately twitch and roll. It was like my body was having an allergic reaction to this verse.  I kept hearing this scripture so much it was like God was playing a joke on me.

No exaggeration, these are how my prayers would go:
