Holiday Blues: Do’s and Don’ts for Singles

Written by Brandi Marsh of Ebony and Pink Pearls for This Is Her Journey

Are you a single women dreading once again another year “being single” during the holidays? And  during this festive holiday time you feel frustrated, while nursing thoughts of:

  • What are you gonna tell those nosey relatives who definitely mean well, but always ask “why aren’t you married yet?”
  • Where are you going to do to occupy your time to avoid feelings of loneliness because you do not have the special someone in your life?
  • When will day come for me to bring my guy to the family Holiday vacation?

As you contemplate on  how to approach the holidays this season, it is very important to celebrate during this season in a way feel comfortable for you as a single person, whether you have that special someone in your life or not.

As you begin to see  all the commercialism, decorations and your ears are bombarded with songs of holiday cheer, let the following holiday do’s and don’ts guide you.

Maintaining Your Salvation When Life Stresses You Out

Have you ever seen the Snickers commercials?  You know the ones from the “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” campaign? Well, that’s exactly how I am when life gets stressful and I am feeling completely overwhelmed.

When things in my world get too chaotic, I’m no where near to being a sweetly saved, compassionate, and caring person.

Family, friends, co-workers, even strangers – they all get my I just want to be left alone, passive aggressive cold shoulder.

That is until the Holy Spirit pulls me back from morphing into someone I am not proud of.

The Downright Dreadful and Difficult “S” Word

Wives, obey your own husbands. In doing this, you obey the Lord.  For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church…As the church is to obey Christ, wives are to obey their own husbands in everything. Ephesians 5:22-24 (NLV)

I’ve always been an independent, do things my own way kind of girl.

My family and close friends, they’d probably say I’m stubborn or hardheaded. But I like independent better, don’t you?

It’s a much more pleasant spin on what can be a downright dreadful and difficult topic, submission.

Being the good Christian girl I am, I’ve heard all the scriptures and sermons about submitting many, many times.

But that does nothing to stop the automatic eye rolls or slow the “ain’t nobody going to tell me what to do” chorus that quickly arises in my heart and my head.

Prayers for My Child – Back to School Edition

Oh Lord…here we go!

Back to homework assignments.

Back to special projects.

Back to state exams. Packing lunch bags. Fussing over outfit choices, or why the uniform is “boring”. And my all time favorite, back to the daily dash to make it out the house on time.

Sweet Jesus, it’s back to school time!

Would you excuse me for a moment while I take a deep breath. Feel free to take one too. I  promise, I won’t judge!
